Eight writing tables in solid walnut wood, with one draw and the
four legs with a slightly bent shape delivered to the Pavillions
of marly by mr Potain joiner.
Inside the draw a writing proof can be found , this tables is from
royal origin and is part of the inventor of Marly,it is identical
by it's description and measurements to the eight tables order.
These tables were placed in the bedrooms of the Pavillions of Marly,
near the commodes made also from walnut wood and marble, delivered
by Antoine - Robert Gaudreaus on june 17 1729 .
The bedrooms were situated on various floors and this particular
table must have been in one of them before the order was given to
sell the furniture of the château de Marly in 1793.
François II Potain and father made furniture for the King
under the order of Antoine-Robert Gaudreaus they made for the King
bedroom in Compiègne twowardrobes and an oak table.
Antoine-Robert gaudreaus was overwhelmed by the orders so he hired
François I potain & françois II Potain to help
him, giving them the drawings and instructions.
From 1726 till 1746 lots a pieces of furniture made from walnut
wood were delivered to the king, and this particular writing table
is unique because it is the result of collaboration between gaudreaus
and François II Potain.
It is also the oldest piece of furniture dated of royal origin Louis
XV ever found, and it witnesses the amazing work of a joiner long
forgotten.
